Animal welfare is taken very seriously in the Islam. No animal should suffer unnecessarily.

Verily Allaah has prescribed goodness for everything. So when you slaughter, then slaughter in a good manner. And let each of you sharpen his blade and let him spare the animal he slaughters from suffering. (Sharia)

In accordance with the changed, global, industrial production conditions and adapted to legal regulations in the western industrialized countries, Muslim scholars have already defined some stunning styles and approaches – electrical stunning, gas stunning, captive bolt pistol with shortened or flattened bolts – which are accepted as halal (IIFA, 101/3/10 Resolution Rules of Slaughtering, June 1997)
